Throwback Tuesdays - Pennys 'First baby' the incredible 'ARDSCULL BARRY'
Welcome back to another "Tuesday Throwback"! We're thrilled to revisit one of the pivotal moments in our journey that has sparked so much interest and curiosity. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on a remarkable pony that holds a special place in Penny's heart: Ardsull Barry.
Many of you may have heard the name Dunbeggan Dreamer, one of Penny's first show ponies to achieve impressive success and accolades. But what many people don’t know is that Barry, affectionately known as "Baz," is another gem that Penny added to her collection—a purchase she managed to keep under wraps for a while. It seems to be a recurring theme with Penny!
One day, while perusing online advertisements, Penny stumbled upon a small, colorful pony that immediately captured her heart. Being the passionate horse enthusiast that she is, she couldn’t resist bringing him into her world. Baz, a petite three-year-old colored pony standing at just 12 hands, with one striking blue eye and a flowing white tail, was a sight to behold, albeit slightly underweight and in need of some TLC. Penny’s justification for the spontaneous purchase was simple yet compelling: "Oh, but he's so, so cute! Just wait until you see him move!" And boy, could he move indeed!
With Penny's tender care and expertise, Baz quickly blossomed from a timid, shy little pony into a vibrant character full of personality. He became the darling of the yard, always the first to rush up to greet visitors in the field. His playful antics included following Penny around with his nose gently resting on her shoulder, capturing the hearts of everyone he met.
Under Penny’s guidance, Baz was meticulously broken and produced, making him a favorite among the children in Penny’s coaching program. His charm and talent shone brightly as he began competing in shows, where he quickly made a name for himself. At his first series of competitions, Penny showcased Baz in-hand, and he took home the top honors at the IPS Spring Show in the in-hand colored animals category. His impressive performance continued at Ballivor, where he won his first ridden pony class, dazzling the judges and spectators alike.
As Penny always envisaged for him, Baz eventually found a wonderful home with a caring family who has young children that adore him. Penny lovingly referred to him as "her first baby." It fills our hearts with joy to see Baz thriving in a loving environment, embodying the true spirit of what we strive for in our training and care.
This chapter in our journey serves as a beautiful reminder that true beauty lies not only in appearances but also in the heart and spirit of an animal. With the right love, care, and attention, even the shyest little pony can unleash their full potential and transform into a champion. Here’s to more adventures and stories that continue to inspire us all!
